Knights in Armor Ignite our Imaginations for Honor

Honor is sometimes lost in the fast and difficult pace of our modern lives, but being honorable is a virtue that we should never relinquish. Humans thrive when challenged, so, I suggest that each day we refocus our intentions on honor. This is not as difficult as it seems at first, and we can find many tools to help us refocus on how to live honorably. One easy way to help remind us is to use images that capture our imaginations, and the most familiar images that embody honor are Medieval Knights in Armor and Knights on Horses. The knights upheld the best of what we can all relate to as honor, whether it be for virtues of offering all in the Crusades or the daily opportunity to aid a lady in distress. We can all relate to how honoring our mothers and fathers helps to build and maintain strong family values. Honor is vital to us, and we can make a difference in the World by our actions and reactions to each and every interaction with others each day. We should all seek reminders in our home decor to help us live more honorably.

Pottery for our Garden

After being inside all winter, I am READY to feel the sun and get my hands dirty in the garden helping mother nature with her green creations. Ceramic antique pottery is great for inside decor, but I prefer to use fiber stone planters which appear to be antique, but withstand much more of the kind of tough use that I put them to and yet look like they are antiques. Actually modern looking baskets, pots, or vases are also made of these modern materials which are a mixture of sand and stones cast into the surface of the design over a fiberglass structure to make them light and durable and made to fit each of our individual decors. Pottery of all shapes and sizes and designs are great to implement outside to help our gardens, yards, and homes look just right! Urns as well as vases are needed to make the complete look that makes us comfortable in our gardens. Peace and tranquility blended with the visual appeal that we seek are all available to each of us as we get outside and dig our hands in the rich brown earth with that warm sun from above.

Coordinate and Update Your Kitchen Decor

Dress up your kitchen with a coordinated decorating scheme. It’s actually very easy; just choose a design item that appeals to you. It could be a lighthouse, apples, roosters, or flowers. Then choose functional accessories such as a wall clock, a lazy Susan, cutting board, a spoon rest, a coaster set, oil and vinegar bottles, or canisters decorated with your chosen theme. Place these items in strategic locations, and you will have created a very coordinated and carefully planned look for your kitchen. You can also display brightly colored tea pots to accent your kitchen décor with matching or contrasting eye-catchers. To update your breakfast nook consider a glass-topped table or stainless steel bar stools in innovative designs. Even your pet bowls and feeders can coordinate with your kitchen décor. Every piece does not need to match, but just by updating and coordinating accents you can make your kitchen an attractive and interesting gathering area for family and friends alike.

Mythical Decor

Statues used in home or office décor add a fascinating accent and will definitely spark conversations. Classic art and museum quality reproductions from any historical era can be chosen to add interest to your decorating scheme. Invoke mental images of the chivalrous men of the Middle Ages by placing pewter statues of medieval knights on horses or pewter renditions of knights’ helmets or burgonets on table tops or shelves. For a daringly bold accent, have your guests welcomed by a life-sized medieval knight standing guard in your foyer, library, or den. Items that will surely invoke conversations are handcrafted and painted skulls cast in resin, in a variety of styles including Celtic, Viking, and Mayan. Along this same line, statues of “grotesques” or gargoyles peering down from shelves or mantles will command instant attention. On the mythical side, beautifully painted statues of creatures such as fire breathing dragons in menacing poses or delicate fairies with butterfly wings perched on unicorns, bring a touch of magic and mystery into your room décor. Carefully placed statues in any of these styles will enhance your décor as they demand attention and capture the fascination of your guests.

Collectibles as Home Decor

Whether you are already an avid collector, or are a novice, collectible items such as steins, figurines, or masks make interesting conversation pieces as part of your home décor.  Grouping these items in displays on shelves or on table tops can help to create a mood or style for your room.  Unusual items such as egg jewelry boxes placed on a mirrored shelf will attract the attention of guests and will create a sense of Old-World mystery or intrigue.  Detailed models of ships are collectibles that also attract immediate attention as their beautiful lines and intricate detailing invoke a sense of awe in the viewer.  Whatever your interest is, use your collections (or start a new one) to enhance your unique home decorating style.
